The meditative state is where you can get rid of those survival emotions of the flight or fight response.
When you close your eyes 80% of sensory information derived from sight is left behind, and purposely goes inward. Since you are greatly reducing sensory information from the outside world around you, less information is entering your mind. You relax. You become less preoccupied with the world around you, and the inner thoughts begin to consume your attention. Before I attempt to meditate I make sure to eliminate all environmental distractions, like the telephone, TV, pets, etc. I take any pills I require and make that last-minute bathroom break, and any other regular procedure I need to follow. I set the room temperature at a comfortable sleep level. I lie down as I normally would for a good night's sleep. I thenturn on a meditation tape. I useDr. Dispenza'sself directed method of meditation. I begin by focusing on what is being said, starting with the deep breathing exercises at the beginning of the tape. As a result, my brainwaves automaticallymove from a conscious beta state to the subconscious alpha state, and then down to theta, and eventually to delta deep sleep. As I wake up my brainwave pattern is automaticallytheta, which is the brainwave pattern where the mind is the most creative and susceptible to removing those negative self-destructive survival emotions from the brain.
There is no more time-efficient and simple way to reprogram your brain than when your sleeping. Therefore there is noexcuse, for you not having the time to meditate. The brain wave patterns are delta, theta, alpha, low range beta, mid-range beta, and high range beta. To learn about the various brain waves go to the brain page of this site.
Below is a meditation tape that I highly recommend. For those of you who suffer from anxiety, and have trouble getting to sleep. I was addicted to the highly addictive sleeping pill zoplicone for many years. Since I have been listening to this tape I no longer need to use sleeping pills to get to sleep. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVLlma9ivLQIf you look over to the right side of this page you will notice other audio tapes. By clicking on them you will be able to listen to a wide variety of medtation tapes.
